Satirical etching ca. 1809

Artist: George Moutard Woodward

Etcher: Isaac Cruikshank, born 1764 – died 1811

Image copyright: © Victoria and Albert Museum

This satirical hand-coloured engraving by Isaac Cruikshank is after a drawing by the caricaturist George Woodward. The engraving satirises the proceedings of an optics lecture in Kent when a Kentish merchant mistakes the subject of ‘Optics’ for ‘Hop sticks’.
