Learn while you earn and become a Dispensing Optician

Do you want to achieve a professional qualification while you work?

ABDO College ophthalmic dispensing courses offer you the chance to achieve a degree or diploma

Combine distance learning with block release over three years to become a registered dispensing optician.

You will become a Fellow of the Association of British Dispensing Opticians (FBDO), allowing you to work in optical practice, dispensing spectacles to all groups of people including children and those with sight impairments. You can become the practice expert in optical problem solving. The FBDO qualification is the gateway to your further career advancement, allowing for specialisms in contact lenses, low vision and more.

How do I join?

To join the course you need GCSE Grade C or above (Level 4 or above from 2017) in English, Mathematics, Science and two other subjects. The degree course also requires evidence of recent learning. Check out our Access courses if you are missing any of these qualifications.

You must be working in practice as a trainee dispensing optician for a minimum of 30 hours per week and have the support of your employer.
