Prizes awarded at the ABDO graduation ceremony

The Association of British Dispensing Opticians (ABDO) held our graduation ceremony for dispensing opticians (DOs) and contact lens opticians (CLOs) at Canterbury Cathedral on 12 May.

The special event sees graduands approach the dais one by one to be congratulated by ABDO’s director of professional qualifications, Miranda Richardson. Outgoing president Kevin Gutsell welcomed them to the ceremony.

Prizes, supported by industry sponsors, were awarded to students and graduates for the best achievements and top marks in exams.

Prizes for ABDO College students include:

  • The EssilorLuxottica Prize, awarded to Adriana Roberts for the highest combined mark in units 1 and 2 of the Preliminary Qualifying Examination.
  • The Stepper Prize, awarded to James Stokes for the highest mark in unit 4 of the Preliminary Qualifying Practical Examination.
  • The Association of Optometrists Prize, awarded to Angelica Barnes for the highest mark in section A of the Final Qualifying Practical Examination.
  • The Worshipful Company of Spectacle Makers Prize, awarded to Leah Harscoe for the highest mark in section B of the Final Qualifying Practical Examination.
  • The Millmead Optical Group Prize, awarded to Joanna McColl for the highest mark in section C of the Final Qualifying Practical Examination.
  • The Rodenstock Prize, awarded to Gemma Sumpton for the highest mark in section D of the practical Final Qualifying Examination.

Many graduands and their families were in the 11th century cathedral to celebrate their graduation. College principal Nina McDermott and our tutors were delighted to see their former students receive their certificates and handshakes.

Congratulations to all our graduates. We wish you well for your future careers!
