Meet Chloe Bowen, student dispensing optician at Lynne Fernandes Optometrists
What inspired you to become a dispensing optician?
From a young age I have always wanted to become an optometrist after getting a Saturday job in optics while studying for my A levels I discovered there were other paths in optometry than just going to university. After finishing my A-levels I decided I didn’t want to go to university, and I wanted to do the dispensing optician course first.
Why did you choose the apprenticeship pathway?
I wasn’t aware of the apprenticeship pathway until work mentioned it. I thought it was a great idea as would mean that I got a day each week as a study day this has helped me manage my study, work life balance much better.
What attracted you to study with ABDO College?
Colleagues of mine who I have spoken to have always expressed positive feedback on ABDO College from the lecturers and content to the friends they made.
How are you finding the course so far?
I am really enjoying the course I have enjoyed being able to apply my learning into everyday practise. I have made some great friends and had some good experiences while on block.
Top tips for future apprentices…
Use your study days wisely to help you manage your work loads. Keep yourself organised and enjoy yourself.
