Vacancy: Academic Link Tutor

Canterbury Christ Church University is advertising for a new academic link tutor to liaise between ABDO College and the university. The job advert and description can be found here.

Simon Matthews has been the academic link tutor at Canterbury Christ Church University. He says, “I enjoyed working between the two institutions ensuring communication was maintained with key updates or changes. One of the challenges for a partner college is finding someone to go to when issues arise. This is the key part of the role as academic link tutor, being the conduit between the university and ABDO College.

“Alongside day-to-day check ins, another key element of the role is quality assurance, making sure that the procedures at the partner institute align with the expectations of the university. This includes reviewing marking of students work through to examination performance. Working to avoid attrition, maintain positive student feedback and ensure the best possible outcomes for the students exiting the courses.

“The role is not pure administration, and I was able to enjoy face-to-face contact with students at various levels through the courses, teaching on the degree course. My particular favourite to run was the final third year dissertation module, the individual study, the final piece for students gaining their BSc (Hons) in Opthalmic Dispensing.

“This varied role kept me on my toes, and I never had the opportunity to feel as if the role was stagnant. Anyone looking for a great blend of teaching, course management, with a closer contact with the wonderful ABDO College building, grounds and exemplary teaching staff should look no further!”

If you are new to teaching, full support and mentoring will be given.
