 Optical Assistant

This popular new course is designed for all support staff working in optics, from entry level to those who want to reinforce their skills and broaden the knowledge gained in practice. Each module is designed to provide the learner with the foundation of knowledge needed in order to support both professional staff and customers in their practice.

This course is designed as an introduction to formal learning for students in the area of optics to help them progress in their optical career and educational pathway.

Successful completion of this Optical Assistant course will allow the learner direct entry into Year 1 of the FBDO Diploma without the need for prerequisite GCSEs or A Levels while studying subjects directly applicable to everyday practice.

Senior Optical Assistant

The NEW Senior Optical Assistant course is for staff who you would like to become
senior optical assistants and/or supervisors.

It will deliver benefit to your practice through staff with increased knowledge, and allows staff to feel they are developing.

The course content has been updated to focus on skills needed in modern practice.

It gives a great foundation if for anyone who may want to study for the FBDO qualification and allows direct entry to year 1 of the ophthalmic dispensing course.

Ophthalmic Dispensing

Do you want to achieve a professional qualification while you work?

ABDO College ophthalmic dispensing courses offer you the chance to achieve a diploma. 

Combine distance learning with block release over three years to become a registered dispensing optician.

You will become a Fellow of the Association of British Dispensing Opticians (FBDO), allowing you to work in optical practice, dispensing spectacles to all groups of people including children and those with sight impairments.

You can become the practice expert in optical problem solving.

Open to dispensing opticians (as well as optometrists and ophthalmologists), ABDO College contact lens courses give you the chance to add a new speciality to progress your career.

Contact lens opticians assess whether contact lenses meet the needs of a patient, resolve clinical and tolerance issues, and remain responsible for clinical decisions enabling them to provide continuity of care to their patients.

Combine distance learning with block release over one year to become a registered contact lens optician.
