ABDO College – Ofsted monitoring inspection summary

Overall judgement

Ofsted has praised ABDO College for its apprenticeship provision in the recent new provider inspection. It recognised progress made across all key areas, highlighting the College’s strong leadership, high‑quality curriculum design, commitment to inclusion, and effective safeguarding arrangements.

The inspection took place on 14–15 January 2026 and inspectors talked to students, staff, employers and supervisors. You can read the published report here.

Ofsted carries out monitoring inspections to all newly directly funded providers of the dispensing optician apprenticeship training provision where the provision offered is in scope for inspection.

At the time of inspection, ABDO College was training 247 apprentices, all aged 19 or over and enrolled on the Level 6 dispensing optician apprenticeship. The College continues to strengthen its specialist role in supporting the future workforce of the optical profession.
